The political education course covers the basic principles of democracy, the electoral process, the role of civil society, media and social networks in political processes. The course consists of five modules, which include animations, interviews with experts and politicians, educational materials, infographics, and tests. The course is based on examples from Canadian history and contemporary politics.
What’s the course about?
The first module introduces participants to the basic principles of the democratic process. The second module focuses on elections in democratic and authoritarian countries with examples of election campaigns, fraud and manipulation. The third block presents mechanisms of civil control and examples of participation in the public and political life of the country. In the fourth and fifth modules, participants will study the functions of the media and social networks as a tool for controlling the state, business and social movements, and learn how to distinguish fake from true information and not to get caught by a troll.
